Under general supervision, the Records Center Assistant II provides support for the County's centralized Records Center storage facility.
Works with County Departments in coordinating the receiving, shipping, storage, retention and disposal of County records.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Records Center Assistant I is the entry level class in the records center support series.
Initially under close supervision, incumbents perform the more routine duties while learning County policies and procedures and becoming familiar with County warehousing practices.
As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines.
Records Center Assistant II is the fully experienced journey level class in this series capable of performing the full range of records center tasks.
The ideal candidate will have:
One year of experience in records management, working in a bookstore or library, or as a warehouse delivery driver.
The ability to be well-versed with the use of general office technology.
The ability to think critically and multi-task.
Experience and/or familiarity with records management systems or has the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Relevant work experience providing office or administrative support within a warehouse setting.
Experience coordinating the receiving, shipping, storage, maintenance, and transporting records materials and supplies.
Experience inventorying, filing, and retrieving case files.
Ability to support HSA branches with product and supplies deliveries.
Ability to support HSA Facilities team with workspace deliveries and day-to-day operational tasks such as office furniture inventory.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to lift 75 pounds.
Examples Of Duties Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Receive, store, transport and deliver records materials.
Verify records received against packing lists, store records in prescribed order.
Perform the clerical checking of incoming materials; perform associated recordkeeping duties in support of record maintenance; use an on-line computer system to access inventory and related information.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of records management.
Safety regulations and precautions pertaining to the work.
Applicable laws and regulation pertaining to records management.
Business data processing applications.
Business arithmetic.
Skill/Ability to:
Participate in administering the operational activities related to records management.
Organize and prioritize work and meet operational department records storage needs.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Load and unload materials of various bulk and weight.
Lift materials and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to qualify is:
Records Center Assistant II - One year of experience in records management.

Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, Confidential and Management extra-help/limited term, and SEIU or AFSCME represented extra help/limited term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.
