Sr. Technical Product Manager - Autonomous Driving

The Volkswagen ERL is the VW Groups presence in the Silicon Valley. We workclosely with the Audi, Porsche and VW brands. We have a rich history in selfdriving cars. In 2007, we were industry pioneers in this space ? winning theDARPA Grand Challenge with Stanford. Currently we work on applying deeplearning to autonomous driving. We are also working on Traffic Jam Pilot, whichwill be a commercially available L3 autonomous car.
Role Summary
This rolewill be involved primarily in development and pre-development projects at thelab. You will come up with product requirements which involves a lot of drivingto come up with requirements for self-driving car algorithms. You'll work withteams of engineers to come up with system and module requirements and managethe execution of these projects. You could also be responsible for testing andmanaging the logistics for your project.
This is nota rote 9-5 job. While we value work life balance we expect you to be passionateabout technology and have tons of ideas. You'll jump at the chance to come upwith the agenda, get people aligned and drive projects to completion.
Responsibilities
Main responsibility ? 70% of timespent
Developrequirements for North America specific driver assistance systems functions
Design testprocedures and organize test drives throughout US and Canada
Analyze testresults, determine root cause, and report bugs in a timely manner in the properformat
Establishmilestones, monitor progress and report status regularly and accurately
Create and maintainsupporting documents and presentations as necessary
Identify newfeatures for future vehicle models and conduct competitor benchmarks
Additional responsibilities ? 30%of time
Managelogistics that include (but are not limited to) vehicle transport, hardwareshipment, travel etc.
Other ERLactivities including exploration of new innovations and capture of intellectualproperty
Qualifications
Required Skills
Strongprogramming skills, strong IT background
Required Specialized Skills
Product Definition
Comfortable forming and articulating the big picture on where anindustry is headed and creating product roadmaps
Prior experience defining a highly technical product as a systemsengineer or equivalent
Prior experience with V-model Systems engineering
Experience gathering and organizing requirements and writing functionalspecifications
Adept at diving deep into the weeds with engineers while keeping theproduct vision in mind
Ability to plan/review architectures, technical designs, teststrategies, test cases etc.
Project Management
Experience running multiple projects simultaneously
Usual PM stuff - manage timelines, budgets, resource planning, risk etc.
Technical Depth
Prior experience with robotics, unmanned systems, control systems, orcamera/sensor based perception
Be highly technical. Familiarity with data structures and algorithms,machine learning and math are required
Leadership
Capable of leading by influence, not authority
Capable of getting people across levels of an organization alignedbehind a common vision
Effective public speaker ? comfortable presenting complex technicalinformation in front of technical and non-technical audiences at all levels ofthe organization
Experience presenting to the press, government officials etc.
Desired
Experiencewith processing large amounts of data on clusters in the cloud, GPU clusters etc.
Experiencein a regulated industries such as automotive, aerospace, medical devices etc.
Years of Experience:
8 years inmachine learning, 2 years in deep learning
Education
Required: BSc Computer Science
Desired: MSc, PhD
Work Flexibility
Up to 25% time travel throughout US and Canada
Up to 2 trips to Germany per year
Required: US Driver's license with no more than 2 violation points and no DUI conviction

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
